Paul Brethen from California, USA has been working in Uganda since 2004 and is currently a residence living in Kampala. He is one of the founders of Net For Hope and is responsible for developing international partnerships and support. As a visionary he played a key role in developing the N4H holistic model and its implementation.

He received his clinical license as a Marriage, Family, Child Therapist in 1992, in Los Angeles, California, USA and is a Certified Addiction Specialist since 1996 from the American Academy of Health Care Providers in the Addictive Disorders. He is a guest speaker at numerous national conferences and is a published author.

He has over 20 years experience in the field of addiction and treatment. He was a director, clinical supervisor, and international trainer for Matrix Institute on Addiction since 1986.

He was also instrumental in the development of the Matrix Neurobehavioral Model of Stimulant Dependence for both adults and adolescents. Mr. Brethen has played a key role in adapting the Matrix Model in the Criminal Justice Department, Social Services, private and public sector. He supervised several clinical research projects on effective forms of treatment for stimulant abusers; these include medication trials, contingency management and cognitive impairment from drug abuse. Was a major contributor in the development the Adolescent Matrix Model which was recognized by Drug Strategies Treating Teens: A guide to Adolescent Drug Programs 2003, as being one of the few exemplary programs in the country
